Because of its long history of manufacture and its popularity, the type study of Stanley levels (by John Walter, and expanded by Don Rosebrook) was based on the No. 3 level. This example is in the 26” length and is typical with its brass ends, adjustable vials and cherry wood construction. This one is a type 9, made between 1920 and 21. It has a partial decal on the top, in front of the brass top plate, and good edges, with few dings. It is a good working level that is in great shape for one that is pushing 100 years old.
