An early try square that was made between 1874 and 1887. Later renamed and reconfigured to the No. 12 Try Square, this is the earliest form with its handle rivets embedded in lead fill. This one has the patent date (5/26/1974) stamped in the lead infill around the rivets. It has most of its original japanned surface on the finely cross hatched handle. The 8 inch blade is graduated on both sides. This is a scarce early try square in collectible condition.
