A
simple tool, you wrap serving line (tarred marline), around the handle and over
the nose of the tool. Then tension the line as you wind the board around the
object to be served (splice, line, oarlock, etc). With the hand adjustment you
can apply a surprising tension to the marline, produciing light, even serving.
This is an old one, predating the serving mallet in its several forms. It is a
neat tool to learn to use. This one is 13 inches long, has an inconsequential
handle chip, and has enough wear to teach you how to use it. Good+
