Roger Smith’s P-tampia, Vol.2, provides a lot of info on the Shelton Plane & Tool Co. line of planes (and baskets). Although I run into Shelton planes all the time, they are usually smooth planes, or ordinary non-adjustable block planes. I hadn’t seen one like this, until it popped up at a local auction. The eye-catching feature is a vertical lever protruding through the lever cap. With the blade adjusting screw relaxed, this allows the lever adjustment of the blade. A picture of the plane appears on page 300 of Roger’s book, differing from this one, in that his has McAller’s patent date in the bed. The plane is 7 1/8´inches long, with an unmarked blade that is 1 5/8” wide. It has better than 90 percnt of its original finishes. Fine
