Astragal
profiles are not often seen in American planes, but make a quite desirable
profile for setting off larger book case and chest moldings. This example is in
the larger 6/8 inch size and is fully boxed in the “hammerhead” or dovetail
style. The maker was the partnership of Samuel Hills and and William Winship
who worked together in Springfield about 1832. The plane is in better than
usual condition, with only minor edge wear, and a little staining low on the
right side. It is a nice, if uncommon, sort of plane. Easily Good+
