This very nice mortise gage uses the cam-lock patent of Wessel Brodhead, issued on April 21, 1868. The Star Tool Co. of Middletown, Ct made these gages after 1872. This example is made of boxwood with brass plating on the octagonal head. The mark of the Star Tool Co and the patent date is clearly marked on the head. The stem supports the screw arm mortise slide. The head has two brass plates. The pins are good. This is fine tool, completely worthy of a collection. Fine.
