Item SCR8 - Sculpted Whale Tooth.
This
6 inch long, fairly narrow Sperm Whale tooth was partially scraped and polished
and then sculpted with the block capitals, “F E B”. Whether these represent a
person with the initials FEB, or if it has some other meaning (e.g. the month “Febrary),
is up for conjecture. The narrow, nearly sealed, base of the pulp cavity has
been fairly recently been bored with a 3/16"” hole, suggesting that the tooth
may have been displayed. Unusual and Fine.
