Item S14 - Jackson 12” Open Handle Dovetail Saw.

“Jackson” was a brand name used for many years by the Henry Disston companies, denoting their second-level, but still very good back and hand saws. Nearly all of the open handle back saws were made with this brand name. This example is one with a 12” blade, steel back, and open beech handle. The steel spine is stamped, “Jackson” (in an arc) and “Warranted -Cast Steel.” The handle has two brass saw bolts, one of which includes a sunken medallion having an “optimistic eagle and the words, “Warranted / Superior.” The handle has no cracks or chips and has only slight wear. Both the upper and lower horns are without damage. The blade is filed about 14 ppi, rip and is straight and decently sharp. It has just a little very fine pitting. A former owner drilled a 1/4” hang hole near the front of the blade that will prove useful. The handle design medallion and slotted saw screws date this to the 1880s. Good+
