This craftsman-made marking gage has a stem with an ovoid cross section that is fixed with a captive wedge. The stem appears to be made from beech wood, while the head is probably also a fairly dense beech. The stem is 9 ½” long by ¾” wide. The head is 7/8” thick and has curved top and bottom surfaces. It is 3” long and a little over 2” deep at its center. The layout lines for cutting the mortise are visiable. It is probably of English manufacture. Fine.
