Item P26 - Stanley No. 248A Plow Pane. IOB

This under-utilized plane derived from the No. 248 Weather Strip Plow plane that was provided with but two cutters and was restricted in use.  It was made only from 1936 to 1943, and was then superseded by this model that was made from 1939 to 1958.  It differed in being provided with seven cutters,  from 1/8 to 3/8’ wide, and so was able to plow a greater variety of grooves.  The plane has a second set of arms, the smaller of which are very convenient for setting up a second groove where repetitive grooving is required.  For instance when making a batch of drawers, where the grooves for bottoms are at different levels on the sides and ends of the drawers, it is a snap to set this tool to handle that chore.  This example is in new condition, with complete japan and nickeled finishes, and best of all a complete set of the seven original blades.  These get lost, and finding a complete set is tough.  The plane is in its original box, with the Stanley green and white label with notched corners.  Fine.
