This fairly ordinary looking speed indicator has a nicely turned cherry wood handle and is marked only with a patent date – July 31, 1883. This was for a patent awarded to Charles H. Fowler of Boston, Mass, that was subsequently manufactured by C. E. Chandler, also of Boston, as well as other makers. Fowler later patented a second speed indicator that rang a bell upon reaching a set number of revolutions. This example is in top condition, missing only a contact tip (easy to find). This one is not marked with a maker's name. This is a scarce and collectible with ones in their original box selling for quite a bit of money. Fine $50.00
