Item M6 - Goodell-Pratt No. 710 “Home Companion Tool Set”

A very scarce item, this Goodell-Pratt tool set was marketed in the early 1900s, and apparently was not a big seller, since few have survived.  The set is house in a finger-jointed oak box, with brass hinges, and without handles.  The original orange label on the inside of the cover is complete, and lists the tools originally contained in the set.  Most of these are present, as well as some “extras”added by past owners.  The original tools missing include 1 ½” and 6” No. 66 ratchet screw drivers; 4 punches (No.997 drive, No. 998 prick, No. 996 solid, and No. 999 nail set).   The original tools included are:  No. B12 Universal Tool Handle (with all 8 tools),  No. 3 hack saw frame (with 5 blades); No. 36 hand shave; No. 2 automatic drill (with 8 proper fluted bits); a No. 3 glass cutter; and a 4 honing stone.  Interesting tools added to the set include a package of assorted canvas or sail sewing needles, a cloth (ratty) roll of Cleveland No. 18 breast drill bits;  a 3 inch “Carborundum” honing stone in pasteboard sleeve; and a wood handle flat blade chisel that looks “Goodell-Pratt.”  Most of these tools need only a light cleaning to put them in top shape.  Good+
