A very large bone Eskimo whaling harpoon head, this one is equipped with a ground slate blade and is overall 11 ¼” long from blade to p the the bifurcated barb tip at the other end. The body has been expertly chamfered in three lengthwise bands running lengthwise, with the middle one running through the line hole. Both the upper and lower surfaces have midline grooves carved in them, terminating on the top in the small double barb tip. The slate blade is 3” long and 2” wide at the base. It contains a small drill hole, probably for a small sinew “keeper” line. The back of the head has a drilled hole for the fore-shaft. There is just a little flaking of the bone around the slot for the blade. Otherwise it is perfect. Fine
