This
was North Bros. largest straight hand drill. Without the frills of a ratchet
selecting transmission, it does have a speed selector. Just moving a toggle
allows it to cycle between slow and fast rotational speeds. The drill boasts a
height of 15 inches, three jaw chuck with 3/8” capacity, and a large gear wheel
diameter of 4 inches. The hardwood main handle detaches to expose a hollow for
storing bits (almost no one uses this). This model was not continued by Stanley
when they acquired North Bros in 1946, so it is little seen today. The oft
missing sidee handle is missing, hence the “Good” rating. The drill runs
smoothly at both speeds.
