This
larger block plane has body length of 7 ¼ inches and a blade width of 1 5/8.”
It was first made by Sargent in1887, with production ending in 1918. This
example has the lever blade adjuster that dates from 1910 and a blade with an
oval mark that appeared in 1909. The plane is dark with tarnish, with some of
the black finish worn from the lever cap. There is no rust or pitting. A light
cleaning and honing of the blade will put it right to work. The wooden knob is
in good shape. It is not a commonly seen plane. Good+.
